List of “Hospitels” for COVID-19 patients in Thailand

With the rising number of confirmed COVID-19 cases per day, it’s no wonder that hospital beds in Thailand are nearing capacity. In comes a new type of quarantine facility to offload the number of patients staying at hospitals. “Hospitels” are hotels transformed into field hospitals for patients with less severe symptoms. This leaves the intensive care units (ICUs) free for those who require greater medical attention. Unlike actual field hospitals, Hospitels add a dash of luxury to the mix. Believe it or not, you don’t have to recover from the coronavirus in the same space as 100 other patients. If you’re ever deemed in medical need, Hospitels are a good, comfortable option. Read on for a list of Hospitels for COVID-19 patients in Thailand in this Pacific Prime Thailand article.

What are Hospitels for COVID-19 patients?

“Hospitels” for COVID-19 patients have been up and running since April 2021, when cases were rising dramatically. A portmanteau of “hotel” and “hospital”, these facilities accommodate patients infected with the coronavirus in the event that hospitals become overburdened. Compared to field hospitals, you’ll find better amenities, softer mattresses, and more private quarters at Hospitels. Note that these differ from Alternative State Quarantine hotels, which are actual hotels for the purpose of quarantine and not medical care.

To qualify as a Hospitel, the hotel must have at least 30 rooms and be partnered with a Hospital that can provide comprehensive medical care for the patients. As such, your choices of Hospitel will be limited to your hospital and its affiliated hotels. Ready to book an appointment? Simply contact the hospital where you received your diagnosis and ask to be admitted to its partner hotel.

How much does it cost to stay at Hospitels for COVID-19 patients?

For reference, the program offered by Bumrungrad Hospital is priced from around THB ฿150,000 for a 14-day stay. This price excludes the costs of medications, medical services, and equipment.

Who is eligible to receive treatment at Hospitels for COVID-19 patients in Thailand?

You’ll never be far from medical help even when you are away from the hospital. To put your worries to rest, Hospitels for COVID-19 patients are supervised under the partner hospital. Here, patients eligible for treatment must meet the following criteria:

1. You are tested positive but without symptoms, or;

Asymptomatic patients will be hospitalized for 4 to 7 days. If there’s no complication, you’ll be transferred to a Hospitel. There, you will stay for a further 10 days (or 14 days in case of a suspected COVID-19 variant infection).

2. You are tested positive with symptoms, but have no risk or chronic conditions, or;

After a 4 to 7-day hospitalization, your symptoms will most likely have improved. Thereafter, you will be transferred to a Hospitel and remain there for at least 10 days (or 14 days in case of a suspected COVID19 variant infection).

3. You are under 50 years old and tested positive with no symptoms or risk factors.

You will be admitted directly to a Hospitel for 10 days (or 14 days in case of a suspected COVID-19 variant infection).

Note: Patients staying at a Hospitel must be able to take care of themselves and have consented to remain there for 10 to 14 days after discharge from hospital.

Lung x-rays are also recommended for all patients who have tested positive. If your lungs are abnormal, you should stay at the hospital instead.
