Pacific Prime Thailand would like to inform you that as of mid-May we have launched our new and updated <\/span>Privacy Policy<\/span><\/a>, as required by new data and privacy regulations from the EU. Available on our website, this policy provides a deeper look into how we collect, use, and manage the data of our clients and website users. In this article, we look into the new regulation and why it impacts Thailand, what the new policy covers and provide a mini-FAQ on what this means for you. <\/span><\/p>\n

About the European Union’s data privacy law<\/span><\/h2>\n

It is highly likely that over the past few months you have received a few emails from various companies announcing that they have implemented a new Privacy Policy, or updated an existing one. This is actually not a coincidence, the reason for this is due to the European Union.<\/span><\/p>\n

On May 25th the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) becomes enforceable. This regulation sets out to protect the data and privacy of citizens and residents of the EU. The primary way it does this is by giving people the right to view, edit, and even request deletion of data companies have collected on them. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a part of this regulation, companies are also required to clarify and improve privacy policies so that they are easy for all people to read and understand. <\/span><\/p>\n

The most important component of this new law, however, is the fact that it applies to all residents of the EU and companies who collect data on them, regardless of their location. For example, a company in Bangkok who sells to Europeans living in Thailand is now required to meet GDPR regulations, even though they do not sell or operate in the region. <\/span><\/p>\n

Why update Pacific Prime Thailand’s Privacy Policy now? <\/span><\/h2>\n

At Pacific Prime Thailand we offer a variety of insurance solutions including International Private Medical Insurance (IPMI) plans. These are designed to provide cover of healthcare on a worldwide basis, which makes them popular with expats. <\/span><\/p>\n

You may well know that Thailand has a fairly sizeable expat population, many of whom come from EU countries. This means we are required to meet the GDPR regulations. As a way to show that we are compliant, we have updated our Privacy Policy. <\/span><\/p>\n

This new policy not only explains how we are compliant, but also how we collect, use, and store our users\u2019 data. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our new Privacy Policy has been published (available <\/span>here<\/span><\/a>), and takes effect immediately for new clients, and – as of May 18, 2018 – for existing clients. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
