On a worldwide scale, some of the largest identified <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/chronicdisease\/resources\/publications\/factsheets\/cancer.htm#:~:text=Leading%20risk%20factors%20for%20preventable,and%20drinking%20too%20much%20alcohol.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">risk factors<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> include genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. By 2040, the Global Cancer Observatory predicts that there will be <a href=\"https:\/\/gco.iarc.fr\/tomorrow\/en\/dataviz\/isotype?populations=764&amp;single_unit=10000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">290,000 new cancer cases<\/a>. So, what are the most common cancers in Thailand? Let\u2019s have a look at the breakdowns based on gender.<\/p>\n<h3>Men<\/h3>\n<p>Based on the World Health Organization (WHO)\u2019s 2020 fact sheet on the <a href=\"https:\/\/gco.iarc.fr\/today\/data\/factsheets\/populations\/764-thailand-fact-sheets.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">incidence of cancer in Thailand<\/a>, the incidence of cancer in Thailand is far below that in the United States. Still, among men in Thailand the most common types of cancer (and their acknowledged risk factors) are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Liver and bile duct<\/strong> &#8211; These types of cancer are caused by damage from birth defects, hereditary hemochromatosis disease, cirrhosis, alcohol abuse, or infectious diseases like hepatitis.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Trachea, lung, and bronchus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 The most prominent risk factor linking these types of cancer is smoking tobacco products. Cancer in non-smokers can be caused by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bangkokpost.com\/thailand\/general\/2436239\/lung-cancer-risk-higher-in-polluted-chiang-mai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">air pollution<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, radon inhalation, secondhand smoke, or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pacificprime.co.th\/blog\/respiratory-illness-and-air-pollution-in-thailand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">breathing in the other substances<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> like chemical fumes, asbestos, or vehicle exhaust.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Colon and rectum<\/strong> &#8211; Risk factors for bowel cancers include chronic inflammation, a history of polyps, and potentially diets rich in red and processed meats and poor in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Women<\/h3>\n<p>Similarly, there are differences in the top three most common cancers in Thailand for women. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Breast &#8211; <\/strong>The largest risk factors for developing breast cancer are being female, having a family history of breast cancer, and age.
